Interview at ICEEFest 2017 Conference, Bucharest, Romania
Interviewer: Lukasz, so nice to see you again here. How are you doing?
Lukasz: Thank you very much. I couldn’t be more happy. It’s like a June tradition always Bucharest, always ICEEfest.
Interviewer: Is this your third time, right?
Lukasz: Third time, yeah.
Interviewer: How did you find it this time.
Lukasz: not the full time in Bucharest as I’ve been more often, [00:01:06 Cross Talk]. Yes, that’s correct. It’s amazing conference. Like I said last year we had the interview. It’s an amazing event lot of new things, fantastic speakers, fantastic audience. And I feel kind of like at home.
Interviewer: Is not it getting better and better?
Lukasz: I think its class for itself. It’s one of the best festivals I could ever attend. And I’ve been there recently the on the front page of ICEEfest 5.0. Everybody is so happy.
Interviewer: Oh. Speaking of that we should share LIVE do you know? Oh cool. I will do it right way just for a second. Meanwhile maybe you can tell me a few things about what you got from this two days of festivals here? What one was new? What was interesting for you?
Lukasz: Yeah. I’ve been on a couple of speeches to one of the most important for me it was a phrase which had been said “Do things that you think you cannot do”. That’s amazing, very inspirational. And also the people who have here stands the V.R. sat it’s absolutely amazing. I just ask these guys how much it cost. I want to have a VR set as soon as possible. Its amazing way to relax if you have noise cancelling headphones and beautiful ocean and you looking on that on the ocean like you’ve been diving. That’s pretty awesome way to relax after work.
Interviewer: So following this line ‘Do things that you think you cannot do”. Where will that take us? Where will take the technology?
Lukasz: I remember when I was a kid and it was impossible to for a computer to recognize handwritten text that was impossible for a computer to recognize a faces as all this things are so natural right now. And we know that this is cloud based software. Which can do AI for us that is normal but in 80s in 90s lots of people were saying oh it’s impossible you don’t you need to have such a powerful machine. And I think there were some people that came and they’ve been like not bother about the fact that it’s impossible and they just deliver it. So it’s great to be here because it’s this place where he can see what’s new. And like I mentioned VR I had the right now before your interview with you. It was amazing experience. I didn’t expect that it can be such an amazing thing.
Interviewer: And getting back to what you do on a daily basis? Of course you are a price comparison website. How do you do it like I mean where is the fight in getting the client? Is it really to have the low price of all or what is it?
Lukasz: I think it’s a mixture of the brand, it’s a mixture of the content and that the value proposition. We have extremely good copywriters who are writing a very, very a high level content that answer people questions that can give suggestions and so on and so on. People, who are working in-house, people who are writing in-house because we need the people who are experts. And my background is in the SEO but I’m always saying that there is no SEO silo. SEO is across all channels so the content must be great, the technical aspect of the upset must be great. There are lots new things that came right now in SEO area like accelerated mobile pages, the mobile first experience and so on and so on. So it’s a mixture of many, many things which gives this people what our customer expect.
Interviewer: To get away with the evolution of technology it comes in the audience as well in audience habit for instance how do you keep track of those habits and to see how too far to get the right customer at the right moment?
Lukasz: Yeah that’s a very good question, first of all the tests maybe tests for example. That’s absolutely. They’re the [00:05:35 inaudible] of finding the right way to approach customers. Everything we do is related to mobile and not on the mobile website but also on apps which are giving us extremely good user experience and that’s also measure by lots of analytical aspects behind in the background that maybe are not visible straight away and lots of tests. And then like all this new technologies are just coming watchers, VR and so on and so on. Who knows what would be in two or three years. Right now we try and be on the on the spot with data analyst and data driven decisions.
Interviewer: And from the customers stand should we be afraid that maybe one day guys like you wouldn’t know anything about us, about what we want, what we like, what we need and so on.
Lukasz: I think we are somehow on the same side in the area of artificial intelligence. Am sometimes thinking how long I will be needed to do what I’m doing obviously I artificial intelligence is smarter and smarter. You can see how much Facebook relying on this, how much Google and relying on intelligence. Lots of things like feature sniper. Sniper that appear above the organic results when you’re asking questions to Google then Google picking up the websites that are answering their questions the best way and promoting this on the top. There is kind of artificial intelligence that can differentiate between good and not good answers. So yeah I wouldn’t worry about this because at the end of the day you’re getting extremely good experience and highly targeted answers, highly targeted product and that’s good I think because you spending less time looking for things. But obviously it’s kind of human-ish thing that sometimes we are afraid of the technology. I wouldn’t worry I would rather observe because it’s a very exciting period right now.
Interviewer: And finally Lukasz am I going to see you next year too?
Lukasz: Well that’s a question you should asked the organizer. But I would really love. Today I had a presentation about social media which like a continuation of the previous year presentation. I had a full room of the people and we had amazing atmosphere, lots of love, lot’s of reaction because I like have the reaction of the audience. So yes, please think across and I hope we will catch up next year in Bucharest.
Interviewer: Thank you so much Lukasz for being here.
Lukasz: Thank you very much.
